"Wismar - the backdrop of horror"
The Hanseatic city of Wismar is inextricably linked with the silent film classic "Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror". In 1921, director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau transformed the picturesque old town into the fictional town of Wisborg, the setting for the first vampire film in history.
You can still feel the atmosphere of the film today at the original locations: the market square with the waterworks, the Old Harbour, St. Mary's Church and many other places serve as the backdrop for the eerie events.
