The S\u00f6ndag Sessions are the start of a new concert series in Wismar and the region dedicated entirely to the musical connection to Sweden. Once a month, we bring exciting Swedish musicians to the city - where Swedish history can still be felt. Wismar, once part of the Swedish kingdom and today closely linked to the twin city of Kalmar, will once again become a place for cultural exchange - this time through music.<\/b><\/p>\n
What has always characterized Victoria Skoglund is her tireless curiosity for new places - both musically and geographically. Whether with Audrey's Nordic alternative rock or the cinematically reduced indie\/folk duo Mire Kay - she has always crossed borders and built bridges with music.<\/span><\/p>\n Now she goes as <\/span>Viic Woods<\/b> solo on stage for the first time. In her luggage: her debut mini-album <\/span>\"The Water Between Us\"<\/b> - Six songs, infused with depth, fragility and a unique sonic warmth that arouses curiosity.<\/span><\/p>\n During a time of upheaval (pregnant, with writer's block on the guitar), inspiration came from an unexpected instrument: an acoustic piano, which she had not been able to play until then. But it was precisely this unfamiliarity that made new melodies possible, opened creative doors - and brought the guitar back into play.<\/span><\/p>\n Together with friend and producer <\/span>Kristofer J\u00f6nson<\/b> (Jeniferever) created a sound that seems big and yet remains intimate - somewhere between American indie, Swedish forest rock and dreamy pop. With them: Jeniferever drummer <\/span>Fredrik Aspelin<\/b>. The work was mixed by <\/span>Tom Herbers<\/b> (Low, Why?, Dark Dark Dark) in Minneapolis, mastered by <\/span>JJ Golden<\/b> (Sonic Youth, Calexico) in California. \"It feels almost magical that my music was running through the same sound system as Sonic Youth,\" says Skoglund.<\/span><\/p>\n Thematically, \"The Water Between Us\" revolves around relationships, injustice and female memory. From the bittersweet break-up song <\/span>\"Sunset\"<\/b> about the militant-reduced <\/span>\"DNYPOV\"<\/b> (\"Don't Need Your Point of View\") to the dark anthem <\/span>\"Crooked Birch\"<\/b>which gives space to the voices of earlier generations of women - Viic Woods sings with power and empathy.<\/span><\/p>\n Live<\/b> you can expect an atmospheric concert between tender intimacy and eruptive energy.
