Mina Richman, a queer German-Iranian, found a way to search for identity and direction in music at an early age. Born in Berlin and raised in Bad Salzuflen, she discovered artists such as Joan As Policewoman and Nina Simone in her aunt's record collection. Soul, blues, hip-hop and feminist songwriters shaped her style.<\/span><\/p>\n Her debut EP will be released in 2022 <\/span>Jaywalker<\/span><\/i>for which she was nominated for the PopNRW award for best newcomer. She chose her stage name inspired by the famous Cher quote: \"Mom, I am a rich man\". As she says herself, she owes the fact that she became a feminist to her father, \"by mistake\".<\/span><\/p>\n With the song <\/span>Baba Said<\/span><\/i>which went viral during the Iranian revolution, her music became political - and a tool in the fight for freedom and human rights. For her, activism is not an accessory, but an obligation.<\/span><\/p>\n In their debut album, which will be released on March 15, 2024 by <\/span>Ladies&Ladies<\/span><\/i> she takes an honest look at her childhood, dealing with family conflicts, cultural uprooting and her relationship to her own body. Together with her band and producer Tobias Siebert, she creates a multi-faceted sound between soul, blues, folk and hip-hop.<\/span><\/p>\n The album was named \"Album of the Week\" by DLF Kultur and FluxFM. After a major tour of Germany in 2024, she played at festivals such as the Orange Blossom Special, Traumzeit and Fusion. This was followed in the fall by appearances at Waves Vienna and Reeperbahn Festival. She was also nominated for the PopNRW Award - this time as \"Outstanding Artist\".<\/span><\/p>\n
