The Kittchen in Wismar was opened as a hostel in June 2024.<\/span><\/div><\/div>

The history of this extraordinary location dates back to 1872 and is divided into two areas.<\/span><\/div><\/div>
The modern cell area:<\/span><\/div><\/div>
The modern cell area is a completely new building. The poorhouse of the city of Wismar used to stand on this site. Due to its dilapidation, it was demolished very early on and remained a \"green field\" until the end.<\/span><\/div><\/div>

The historic cell area:<\/span><\/div><\/div>
\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div>
The building was built in 1872 as <\/span>Stallion stable<\/mark> and was then converted into a prison over the years.<\/span><\/div><\/div>
In history, it was then used for various inmates. The records show that there were also <\/span>already, when<\/span> was used as a women's prison. During the Nazi era, the prison was to be enlarged, the plan <\/span>was not realized, however, as the end of the war probably contributed to the end of planning<\/mark>.<\/div><\/div>

During the East German era, the prison was used for fugitives from the republic, among others. <\/span>used, which<\/span><\/span> wanted to flee across the Baltic Sea.<\/span><\/div><\/div>

The building was used as a remand prison until 1992 and was then used as a youth detention center until 2014.<\/span><\/div><\/div>

In our cells, we try to give them an understanding of history using pictures, a small timeline and various quotes.<\/span><\/div><\/div>

The original cell doors, the bars in front of the upper cell windows and the original cell sizes can still be found in the historic cell area.<\/span><\/div><\/div>
The tiled floor was modeled on the floor of that time and we also used an original staircase from the prison era for the stairs in the historic cell area.<\/span><\/div><\/div>

We were therefore able to make a \"unique piece\" out of each of our cells and are delighted <\/span>us when<\/span><\/span> our guests take a piece of history with them from their stay in Wismar.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
