Built in the middle of the 18th century in the Baroque style, the building owes its name to the so-called \"Bohmschl\u00fctern\".<\/strong><\/p><p data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:556\">These employees of the port administration were responsible for the security of the port and lived in the tree house. In the event of imminent danger or at night, they blocked the entrance to the port with a heavy, floating barrier to prevent unauthorized entry.<\/p><p data-sourcepos=\"7:1-7:278\">The entrance portal of the building is flanked by two impressive Swedish heads, which are a reminder of Wismar's eventful history. These copies of old Hercules busts underline the importance of the port as a gateway to the world and once served as a landmark visible from afar.<\/p><p data-sourcepos=\"9:1-9:475\">Today, the tree house is home to the Maritime Traditions Center, which gives visitors a fascinating insight into the Hanseatic era and shipbuilding in Wismar. In the lovingly designed exhibition rooms, visitors can learn more about the importance of seafaring for the economic development of the town. Original tools, models of historic ships and numerous other exhibits tell of the challenges and successes of Wismar's shipbuilders.<\/p><p data-sourcepos=\"9:1-9:475\">The historic tree house is located at the old harbor in Wismar and you need about 10 minutes to walk there from the accommodation. By the way!
