It was a central part of the so-called \"Gothic Quarter\", which was centered around St. Mary's Church.<\/p><p data-sourcepos=\"3:1-3:31\"><strong>History and architecture:<\/strong><\/p><ul data-sourcepos=\"5:1-8:0\"><li data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:301\"><strong>First mentioned in 1351:<\/strong> The Old School was first mentioned in a town register from 1351. It was described as an elongated building divided in the middle by a firewall. Both halves of the building were divided into three classrooms of equal size.<\/li><li data-sourcepos=\"6:1-6:223\"><strong>Gothic architecture:<\/strong> The Old School was a typical example of Gothic architecture, which was widespread in Wismar. It was characterized by its slender proportions, pointed arches and large windows.<\/li><li data-sourcepos=\"7:1-8:0\"><strong>Second World War:<\/strong> Unfortunately, the Old School, like many other buildings in Wismar, was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. Only a few fragments remain.<\/li><\/ul><p data-sourcepos=\"9:1-9:28\"><strong>importance for the city:<\/strong><\/p><ul data-sourcepos=\"11:1-14:0\"><li data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:152\"><strong>Education center:<\/strong> For centuries, the old school was the central educational center of Wismar. The town's children were taught here.<\/li><li data-sourcepos=\"12:1-12:206\"><strong>The heart of the Gothic Quarter:<\/strong> Together with St. Mary's Church and other buildings, the Old School formed the heart of the Gothic quarter, which was known for its impressive architecture.<\/li><li data-sourcepos=\"13:1-14:0\"><strong>Loss for the city:<\/strong> The destruction of the old school was a great loss for Wismar. A significant part of the historical building fabric and a symbol of education and culture was lost.<\/li><\/ul><p data-sourcepos=\"15:1-15:22\"><strong>Today's situation:<\/strong><\/p><ul data-sourcepos=\"17:1-20:0\"><li data-sourcepos=\"17:1-17:84\"><strong>No remains:<\/strong> There are hardly any remains of the old school today.<\/li><li data-sourcepos=\"18:1-18:187\"><strong>Reminder:<\/strong> Nevertheless, the old school in Wismar is not forgotten. There are various initiatives working to preserve the memory of this historic building.<\/li><li data-sourcepos=\"19:1-20:0\"><strong>Future plans:<\/strong> There are plans to rebuild the ruins of the old school and turn it into a cultural center.<\/li><\/ul><p>The old school is located directly opposite Das Kittchen. In our opinion, the foundation walls would have looked nicer with glazing, for
