Music as consolation: LOKI bring emotional depth and big sounds to Wismar
A LOKI concert begins quietly. A synth pulsates slowly, like a heartbeat on the way to a leap. Then everything breaks loose at once: guitar, bass, drums - and those vocals that are simultaneously gentle and determined, vulnerable and strong. LOKI are a band that combines opposites into something whole: Intimacy meets epic sound, fine poetry meets powerful arrangements.
With their mixture of indie, electronica, folk and pop, the eight-piece band led by singer Marc Grünhäuser tells stories of loneliness, forlornness and - of course - love. Their debut song "The Girl With No Eyes" will soon have a million streams on Spotify, her EPs "The Tales of Antheon the Rabbit", "Intimacy", "Cycles" and finally "Vermouth" show the full range of a band that is constantly evolving without losing itself.
On stage, LOKI becomes a small orchestra: strings, wind instruments, electronic elements and polyphonic vocals create a dense, emotional atmosphere. The sound oscillates between danceable beats and melancholic depths, between Bon Iver, Apparat, Ben Howard - and sometimes even Bruce Springsteen.
With appearances at c/o pop, the Reeperbahn Festival and two tours of Germany, LOKI have earned a reputation as an impressive live band. They apply their songs like plasters to open wounds, allowing hope to shine through.
On August 22, they will be guests at the Kittchen - as part of the Freigang concert serieswhich brings artists with a special profile to the inner courtyard of the former youth detention center.
