"Women in Architecture" - Day of Architecture

From prison to culture: the jail opens its doors - and its history

On June 29, 2025, the Kittchen (former prison, now a hostel, café and cultural venue in Wismar) will not only celebrate Architecture Day, but also the start of this year's courtyard season - with a varied cultural program that combines architecture, art, music and hands-on activities for all generations.

Under the motto "Women in Architecture", the day focuses in particular on the role of women in architecture and impressively demonstrates how a place can be transformed: from a prison wing to a monument, to an open space for ideas, remembrance and encounters.

What visitors can expect: One day - many perspectives. For those interested in architecture, families, schoolchildren, tourists and anyone who wants to rediscover Wismar.

CAFÉ & BAR:
🎧 12-16 h: NEULAND with DJ Loyd (Schwerin) - Soundscape meets art

Info: He discovered his love of music at an early age, sparked by the magic of vinyl records. He has been living his passion as a DJ for over 25 years - with dedication, creativity and a flair for rousing house music. His sets are emotional, individual and create a special atmosphere. For him, music is more than just a hobby: it is an attitude to life, connection and movement. As an experienced ambassador of house music, he is always on the lookout for new sounds, encounters and unforgettable moments.

🎨 12-8 p.m.: Exhibition and installations by Kati von Schwerin

Info: Kati von Schwerin is a versatile German artist who works in the fields of visual arts, music and literature. Born in 1983 in Hohenlimburg/Hagen, she studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where she was a master student of Markus Lüpertz, as well as philosophy in Düsseldorf and Berlin. She lives and works in East Frisia.

In her artistic work, von Schwerin deals with social issues. Her works challenge viewers to question familiar patterns and deal with questions such as "Who are you?" or "What are you doing and why?". The "fragile balance" exhibition, for example, focused on the fragility of peace and the need for inner and outer balance. Her art serves as a mirror of society and as a means of reflection.

Her music is in the realm of singer-songwriter pop with introspective lyrics and a characteristic voice. The songs deal with themes such as longing, identity and interpersonal relationships.
